Course Description

The Micro-Credential Content Course, Teaching Early Math to Preschoolers I, is a fully virtual 25-contact hour course for Preschool Educators. This comprehensive course, designed specifically for early childhood practitioners, delves into the why and how of teaching early math concepts to preschoolers. Exploring effective strategies, practical activities, and the underlying rationale for early math development.

By the end of this six-module course, practitioners will feel confident in their ability to create a fun and engaging learning environment that sparks curiosity and fosters a lifelong love of math in young learners.

Learning Objectives

    1. Identify components of the cycle of inquiry in real-world practitioner inquiry.
    2. Evaluate relevant research articles or resources to inform your inquiry process.
    3. Compare and contrast qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques.
    4. Identify appropriate tools (surveys, interviews, observations, etc.) for gathering data.
    5. Develop a concise inquiry brief that outlines your research question, purpose, and approach.
    6. Apply appropriate data analysis techniques to interpret collected data.
    7. Identify patterns, trends, and implications from the data.
    8. Synthesize overall insights and conclusions from the inquiry process.
    9. Communicate the research process, findings, and implications effectively to peers.
    10. Engage in thoughtful self-reflection about the inquiry journey.

Erikson’s micro-credentials are competency-based learning experiences that blend research, real-world application, and reflective coaching—recognizing educators’ mastery of essential practices that strengthen teaching and learning. One Erikson Micro-Credential is made up of one Content Course and one Inquiry Course. Both the Content Course and Inquiry Course are hybrid, with asynchronous and synchronous elements.

Content Course

The Micro-Credential Content Course is a ~12-week intensive course totalling 25 hours of professional development, delivered to cohorts of up to 25 learners. 

Inquiry Course

The Micro-Credential Inquiry Course is a ~10-week intensive course totalling 35 hours of professional development, delivered to cohorts of up to 15 learners.
